Simple Meditation for Winter Stress Release
with Aromatherapy and Herbal Teas
6-7 pm, Tuesdays; January 29th, February 5th, 12th, 19th (4 classes)
@Waquoit Healing Arts Center
In this class series we will demystify meditation and practice extremely simple and accessible meditation and energy-clearing techniques that are suitable for all skill levels and you will be able to take home with you. In each class we will work with aromatheraputic essential oils and sip herbal teas to calm the nervous system and harmonize the body with the energies of winter.
True healing always includes activating the vital force so that the body can do the work it is designed to do. Often we get in our own way; our busy minds and restless bodies prevent the body from naturally repairing and coming back into balance. Research tells us that meditation physiologically deactivates our body’s “fight or flight” stress response and activates our calming “rest and digest” mode. Meditation is a powerful tool for releasing patterns of imbalance and feeling grounded, vital and deeply well.
Whether you are simply looking for more peace in your life or you are on a more extensive healing journey, you will enjoy this class series.
6 classes, Tuesday evenings, 6-7 pm @ Healing Arts Center (70 East Falmouth Highway, East Falmouth), $100

Winter into Spring:
Herbal Remedies and Rituals for Seasonal Transition
By mid-March most of us are more than done with winter. And yet, here in the Northeast, she tends to linger, and often we continue to wade through snow, ice and freezing temperatures far longer than we would like. This can be one of the most difficult times of year as our bodies are stagnant from lack of movement, our skin and hair are dry from months of indoor heat and our minds feel dull from the gray and brown scenery.
This class is designed as an antidote to these doldrums for the body, mind and spirit. We will come together to move through this sometimes-difficult transition season with grace, laughter, traditional wisdom, sweet-smelling skin and nourished bodies.
We will explore the energetics of this season from a Traditional Chinese Medicine perspective as well as Ayurveda. We will discuss (and taste!) helpful herbs and delicious recipes for gentle detoxification and aligning with the awakening energies of spring. In TCM spring is considered “liver season”; we will focus on the health of this dynamic organ.
In each class we will indulge in rejuvenating herbal body care rituals: facial steams and skin care, foot soaking and oil meridian massage and more. You will learn about your individual constitution and to meet your own specific needs.
Each week we will also engage in simple ceremony and meditation with the plants and each other to strengthen our spirits, our community and our relationship with Earth.
Saturdays, 10-12:30, March 9th, 16th, 23rd & 30th @ Lauren’s house in East Falmouth
$140 for all 4 classes, $40/individual class drop in (space dependent, please confirm)

Beltane, the half-way point between the spring equinox and the summer solstice, is a celebration of life, fertility and sensuality. The earth energies are abuzzing and the flowers are opening in celebration of the mystical union or marriage between the May Queen and the May king (the masculine and the feminine). Beltane is a time to call joy, laughter and play into our bodies as we walk in alignment with this season of increasing light.
Beltane is traditionally a fire ceremony. We will sit with our herbal ally, Stinging Nettle, in the garden. Then we will decorate the holly tree and gather around the fire to soak up the power and strength of Nettle, of the earth and of each other.
Immensely rich in vitamins and minerals, stinging nettle (urtica diocia) is a powerful herbal ally for women. She balances and urinary system, strengthens hair and nails, cleanses and builds the blood, corrects skin disorders and heals adrenal fatigue and exhaustion. Nettle is an delicious spring tonic and can be eaten like any other green. The spirit of nettle offers us the strength of a warrior, protection and grounding.

What people say about this class...
Lauren lives and breathes her garden. I felt very *present* at each session while the rest of the world kind of melted away. It inspired me to experiment and go crazy with my own garden! It's a perfect environment in which to relax and learn! It was also a great way to welcome spring! --LB
Kicking off the gardening season with the knowledge and support that Lauren offers was invaluable for me. The classes gave me the knowledge, skills, and mindset for a productive and joyful gardening season. I strongly recommend “For the Love of Gardening”. --KL

At the equinoxes the tilt of the Earth in its rotational orbit is in a straight alignment with the sun. The sun crosses the celestial equator and we experience balanced day and night. In this balance of light and dark we find peace. As the swinging pendulum of the seasons crosses the center line we rest in the cave from which spring, the season of rebirth, is born.
We will work with the healing properties and spirit of white pine (pinus strobus). White pine has a long history of use in the eastern United States and is considered to be the “tree of peace”. Medicine made from white pine is antiseptic, healing for the respiratory system, beneficial for the immune system and extremely high in vitamin C.
